Why Matthew Wrote the Book
Matthew has spent his career helping people make decisions about homeownership. Along the way, he’s seen something again and again:
People aren’t lacking ambition. They’re often lacking good information.
The homebuying process can feel unnecessarily complicated. Loan programs, interest rates, inspections, appraisals, negotiations, closing costs and affordability all come together during a period when buyers are also making an enormously emotional decision.
And the loudest voice in the room isn’t always the wisest one.
Matthew wanted to create something different—a resource that would slow the process down, explain the why behind important decisions and help people think beyond simply asking:
“Can I buy this house?”
to the much more important question:
“Is buying this home, this way, a wise decision for my life?”
For Matthew, that distinction matters.
His own perspective was shaped not only by years as a mortgage professional, but by personal experience—including living through a housing crash that nearly cost him everything.
The Wise Path of Homeownership grew from those experiences and thousands of conversations with people trying to make one of life’s biggest financial decisions.
The goal isn’t to convince everyone to buy a home.

The Person Behind The Wise Path
Meet Matthew Stevens
Matthew Stevens is a husband, father of five, and mortgage professional who believes his responsibility extends well beyond helping someone obtain financing.
He wants people to understand it.
Matthew holds a Master of Arts in Leadership from Columbia International University and is one of the founding organizers of the Veteran Mortgage Advisor™ Program, an initiative committed to helping mortgage professionals better educate and advocate for Veterans pursuing homeownership.
Education, advocacy and financial stewardship are themes that run through Matthew’s professional life—and they’re at the heart of The Wise Path of Homeownership.
For Matthew, a successful closing isn’t simply a transaction completed.
It’s a family walking away understanding what they bought, why they chose it, how their financing works and how the decision fits into the life they’re trying to build.
That’s the standard he brings to the people he serves.
And it’s the reason he wrote the book.
